Mental Health Resources & Tips for Young People

Attending a UN Climate Change Conference can be an exciting and inspiring experience. At the same time, travelling, packed schedules, unfamiliar surroundings and the emotional weight of the climate crisis can feel overwhelming.

This guide was created to support children and young people attending COP31 in Antalya, Turkiye. It brings together practical ideas for looking after your mental health and wellbeing throughout the experience.

What you’ll find in the guide

  • Ways to prepare before travelling

  • Simple grounding exercises for stressful moments

  • Ideas for taking breaks and finding support during the conference

  • Information about eco-anxiety

  • Tips for processing the experience after returning home

One of the exercises included in the guide is the 3–3–3 grounding technique: pause and identify three things you can see, three things you can hear and three things you can touch. It can help bring your attention back to the present moment when everything around you feels busy or intense.

Climate action can involve strong emotions. Worry, frustration, sadness and uncertainty are understandable responses to the climate crisis. Sustainable change needs changemakers who feel supported, rested and connected.
